Greater Manchester Innovation Collaborative shortlisted for the 2024 HSJ Patient Safety Awards
NHS Greater Manchester, Health Innovation Manchester, and NIHR Greater Manchester Patient Safety Research Collaboration are delighted to announce that the ‘Scaling a local Safety Medication Dashboard (SMASH) programme to benefit the 2.8 million population of Greater Manchester has been shortlisted for the Improving Medicines Safety Award at this year’s HSJ Patient Safety Awards which recognises safety, culture and positive experience in patient care, celebrating its worthy finalists on a national scale.
The HSJ Patient Safety Awards acknowledges the hard-working teams and individuals across the UK who are continually striving to deliver improved patient care.
Following the thorough judging process, the team was included in the 206 organisations, projects and individuals that made the final shortlist amid 415 entries logged for the 2024 awards programme.
The Safety Medication Dashboard (SMASH) was created by the University of Manchester to prevent prescription errors. Successfully tested by pharmacists and GPs in Salford between 2015-2018, it was redeveloped in the GM Care Record, broadening the user base to 2.8 million people and resulting in approximately 3,000 fewer patients at risk of harm from medication.
Health Innovation Manchester Digital Innovation Director, Gareth Thomas said: “We’re delighted that SMASH has been recognised for its impact on patient safety via the GM Care Record. I’m particularly proud of the successful collaboration of academic and healthcare organisations working together to create a blueprint for future scalable patient safety developments within the GM Care Record.”
The Awards are a highlight of the HSJ’s annual 2-day Patient Safety Congress (taking place on 16 & 17 September), where delegates working at the forefront of safety, quality and clinical excellence come together to join in on open and honest discussions about the current reality of safety.
