Health 2.0 Manchester – Online Consultations: Are they improving healthcare?
Online/Webinar
Meetup sponsored by Health Innovation Manchester (HInM) and Bruntwood SciTech
Since the Covid-19 crisis started in early 2020, health care organisations across the world have accelerated the adoption of digital health at a dramatic pace.
Across England NHS reports from May 2020 suggested that remote consultations were available in 85% of practices providing with service to around 85% of the population. Nowadays, figures are even higher in video consultations rising to 99% of practices covering 99% of the population.
Online and video consultations have been harnessed to support an ambitious transformation of care recently accelerated by the pandemic which has disrupted not only technology creation and adoption, but ways of working and cross-institutional collaboration.
The key question is to know if these consultation are improving healthcare for patients?
There is emerging evidence on the benefits associated with online consultations and the growing confidence in online and video consulting among healthcare staff and patients but what are the challenges that have been faced and how are these being resolved?
This meetup aims to explore online consultations from a few perspectives. Speakers will share their views on the different aspects of online consultations implementation journey, challenges and opportunities, the impact of online consultations as a whole from both the clinician, patient and technologist perspective.
The panel members will address some of the following questions:
• What is the general landscape on online consultations during and post COVID-19?
• In which ways has the clinician-patient relationship changed by online consultations?
• What type of infrastructure and “rules” need to be in place to protect confidentiality, trust and privacy during online consultations?
