Manchester Academic Health Science Centre announces Honorary Clinical Chairs for 2024

Manchester Academic Health Science Centre (MAHSC), part of Health Innovation Manchester, has announced 15 outstanding individuals as Honorary Clinical Chairs for 2024.

The MAHSC Honorary Clinical Chairs are awarded on an annual basis by The University of Manchester’s Faculty of Biology, Medicine and Health Promotions Committee. They are awarded to individuals who have made a major contribution to their clinical specialty, including excellence in research and education.

MAHSC is designated as an Academic Health Science Centre by NHS England and NHS Improvement and the National Institute for Health and Care Research. It brings together The University of Manchester, Manchester University NHS Foundation Trust, The Christie NHS Foundation Trust, Northern Care Alliance NHS Foundation Trust, and the Greater Manchester Mental Health NHS Foundation Trust to undertake world-leading research to tackle diseases, develop new treatments and transform patient care.

Jonathan Massey, Health Innovation Manchester’s Programme Director for Academia, said: “The University of Manchester awards these Honorary Clinical Chairs to acknowledge the outstanding contributions of these distinguished individuals to our AHSC’s mission of advancing health and care research, education, and patient experience. Congratulations to each of them.”

The new MAHSC Honorary Clinical Chairs for 2024 are:

• Anand Pillai, Consultant Trauma and Orthopaedic Surgeon, Manchester University NHS Foundation Trust
• Jon Bell, Consultant Interventional Radiologist, The Christie NHS Foundation Trust
• Mike Dennis, Consultant Haematologist, The Christie NHS Foundation Trust
• Peter Paine, Consultant Gastroenterologist, Northern Care Alliance
• Cynthia Eccles, Head of Radiotherapy Research and Development, The Christie NHS Foundation Trust
• Laura Hancock, Consultant General & Colorectal Surgeon, Manchester University NHS Foundation Trust
• Michelle Harvie, Lead Research Dietician at the Prevent Breast Cancer Research Unit, Manchester University NHS Foundation Trust
• Roisin Haslett, Regional Postgraduate Dean / Consultant in Intensive Care and Anaesthesia, Northern Care Alliance
• Adrian Heald, Consultant Endocrinologist, Northern Care Alliance
• Javed Sultan, Consultant Oesophago-Gastric and Weight loss Surgeon, Northern Care Alliance
