Manchester Academic Health Science Centre (MAHSC), part of Health Innovation Manchester, invites clinical staff to apply for a Step-Up Award through the MAHSC Cardiovascular Research Domain.

The Cardiovascular Research Domain applies discovery and translational science, and excellence in clinical care, to improve life expectancy for patients with cardiovascular disease in Greater Manchester. MAHSC is committed to building a strong infrastructure and culture of cardiovascular clinical research, providing support for researchers to develop their careers and collaborations across Greater Manchester.

The Step-Up Award will backfill up to 20% whole time equivalents of clinical time, to be used to develop a more substantial research portfolio, and crucially, to support the development and submission of a high-quality external funding application. This support will be provided for up to 12-18 months and must commence in advance of September 2022.

The research project must fall within one of the domain’s themes, which includes:

  • Cardiac and vascular medicine and surgery
  • Cerebrovascular disease
  • Cardiovascular genomics
  • Diabetes

Informal enquiries on planned applications can be directed to the domain lead Bernard Keavney (bernard.keavney@manchester.ac.uk). The selection process will go through a panel of academic and clinical colleagues, with shortlisted applicants required to attend an interview and present research plans, key objectives and a timeline for grant applications.

Applications should be made on the application form below and submitted, with an up-to-date CV, as an email attachment, to MAHSC@healthinnovationmanchester.com before the closing date of Friday 22 April 2022.
