Northern Care Alliance Logo

The Northern Care Alliance has a rich history of pioneering health care and is building one of the most innovative environments in the UK for conducting patient-focused health research and translating it into patient benefit.

We collaborate closely with The University of Manchester, Manchester Metropolitan University and University of Salford and are key partners in Health Innovation Manchester, Manchester Biomedical Research Centre and the NIHR Clinical Research Network: Greater Manchester. We are highly active in delivering clinical trials and studies, with around 450 studies at any one time and recruiting more than 14,000 patients into studies in 2017-18, the 11th highest out of the 154 acute trusts in England.

Salford’s integrated electronic health record system has safely brought together all GP and hospital records in our city for over 15 years, enabling better delivery of care and highly innovative research.

NHS England is supporting Salford Royal through funding and international partnership opportunities to become a Global Digital Exemplar.

Together the hospitals of the Northern Care Alliance bring together 17,000 expert NHS staff to serve more than a million people in the immediate locality and many more from the rest of the UK and Europe who access specialist services such as Salford Royal’s Metabolic Medicine and Intestinal Failure Units. The Alliance provides the benefits of scale, delivered locally through multiple hospital sites and local healthcare services.
