Manchester University NHS Foundation Trust: Research and Innovation Division
Manchester University NHS Foundation Trust is the largest provider of healthcare in the UK, employing 20,000 staff across nine hospitals and community services, with over 3 million patient visits each year.
Our Research and Innovation Division drives continuous improvement in patient care through clinical research, working with industry and strategic partners. We support 300 principal investigators run over 800 studies, across a diverse range of clinical areas involving more than 15,000 patients annually.
We host NIHR infrastructure, including the Manchester Biomedical Research Centre, Manchester Clinical Research Facility and Greater Manchester Clinical Research Network. As well as providing access to clinical expertise to inform understanding of market need and develop/trial new diagnostics and devices.
Working with industry and colleagues across the Trust, we translate research and promote innovation adoption into clinical practice, meaning improved care for patients.
We ensure quality and safety through excellent systems of governance:
- Development and training for clinicians and scientists
- Supporting patient recruitment and engagement
- Development and infrastructure support of research themes
- Providing links with academic partners
We are also developing over 300,000ft² of commercial office and lab space for life science and digital companies to locate on our Oxford Road campus with Manchester Science Partnerships, as part of the accredited Enterprise Zone.
