OPIP Impact Collaborative
Accelerating person-centred obesity pathway transformation at scale through collaboration, shared learning and measurable system-wide impact.
A flagship NHS collaborative turning shared learning into system-wide change
The OPIP Impact Collaborative brings together organisations participating in the Obesity Pathway Innovation Programme (OPIP) to share insight, innovation and experience, accelerating the adoption of effective obesity pathways across the NHS.
Through a flexible national framework, the Collaborative will build capability, foster collaboration and support sustainable system change.
The result will be improved outcomes, reduced variation and a legacy of proven approaches, skilled teams and scalable models for national adoption.
About the Obesity Pathway Innovation Programme (OPIP)
The UK Government’s announcement of the £85 million Obesity Pathway Innovation Programme (OPIP) represents a significant investment in transforming obesity care.
Over the next three years, the NHS will pilot innovative, community-based obesity pathways, generating valuable learning that has the potential to shape future models of care and improve outcomes for patients.
These projects will generate valuable insight into what works, helping to inform future models of care and support wider NHS adoption.
Delivering the OPIP Impact Collaborative
Health Innovation Manchester, Health Innovation South West and Digital Health & Care Innovation Centre Scotland are collaborating to support this national programme as the Impact Collaborative delivery partners, bringing together project teams to share insights, collaborate, solve common challenges and accelerate the spread of innovation across the NHS.
While each organisation provides dedicated regional support, the partnership operates as a single national collaborative. This regional account management approach ensures every project receives tailored support while benefiting from shared learning, peer networks and national insight.
Our Delivery Principles
1. Purposeful & Impact-Driven

- Focused on real-world application and measurable, system-wide transformation
- Prioritising delivery of practical, scalable solutions over theory
- Translating insight rapidly into tangible improvements in local pathways
2. Facilitated & Collaborative

- Actively enabled through facilitation, not passive participation
- Creating the conditions for peer learning, shared problem-solving and mutual support
- Harnessing diverse contexts to accelerate collective insight and innovation
3. Structured for Pace, Flexible for Context

- Providing a clear, national framework to guide delivery and maintain momentum
- Enabling local adaptation to reflect system needs, starting points and opportunities
- Balancing consistency with flexibility to support scale and spread
4. Learning, Testing & Iterating

- Embedding continuous learning cycles: share, reflect, apply, improve
- Encouraging teams to test, adapt and refine approaches in real time
- Creating a safe, energising environment to try new ideas and learn from what works (and what doesn’t)
Turning Innovation into Lasting Impact
The OPIP Impact Collaborative launched in July 2026 and will support participating projects throughout the lifetime of the Obesity Pathway Innovation Programme.
By bringing together people, expertise and learning from across the UK, the Collaborative will help ensure that successful approaches are not only tested but translated into meaningful and sustainable improvements for patients, communities and health systems.
