New leadership appointments to further advance HInM’s mission

Health Innovation Manchester (HInM) has confirmed two new role appointments within its executive leadership team, with Laura Rooney appointed to the role of Deputy Chief Executive/Chief Strategy Officer, and Claire Macconnell as Chief Operating Officer.
Both Laura and Claire are established members of HInM’s executive team and bring a wealth of experience in health and care innovation, system transformation, and innovation delivery. Their new roles reflect the evolving priorities of the organisation as it accelerates the impact of its work across Greater Manchester and beyond, including the expansion of industry-led innovation and the adoption of digital and data-led solutions.

Previously Director of Strategy, Laura has played a key role in shaping HInM’s regional and national profile across innovation, life sciences, and data-driven transformation over the last eight years. As Deputy Chief Executive/Chief Strategy Officer, she will expand her portfolio to lead on strategic industry partnerships, external affairs, business development, and system engagement, supporting the Chief Executive and Board in delivering HInM’s strategic vision.
Laura commented: “I am pleased to continue my journey with HInM and take on this role at a time when the pace, ambition and visibility of health innovation in Greater Manchester is growing rapidly. We are uniquely positioned to demonstrate the power of real-world deployment, supported by world-class data and clinical insight. I look forward to deepening our partnerships with industry, academia and the NHS, and working alongside the Board and executive team to deliver on our vision for a healthier, more innovative city region.”
Claire joined HInM last year and has extensive experience in senior leadership roles within the NHS and spent several years as a senior HR & OD leader at Manchester University Foundation Trust. As Chief Operating Officer, she will oversee the organisation’s operational performance, programme delivery, governance, finance and organisational development, ensuring strong foundations for HInM and innovation to thrive at scale.
Claire commented: “This is a critical time for Health Innovation Manchester as we scale delivery and operationalise new partnerships, platforms and investment opportunities. I’m excited to lead the next phase of operational development, ensuring we have the right capabilities, systems and governance in place to deliver meaningful change for our partners, our system, and the communities we serve.”
Professor Ben Bridgewater, Chief Executive, added:
“I am delighted that Laura and Claire are stepping into these new roles. They are both highly respected leaders who bring deep knowledge, strong values, and a relentless focus on delivery. As we move into our next phase of establishing HInM as a world leader in the deployment of innovation, these appointments ensure we are well-placed to lead with purpose and impact.”
