Professor Agata Rembielak
Professor Agata Rembielak is a highly experienced Clinical Oncology Consultant with an excellent knowledge of advanced radiation technology and brachytherapy.
She graduated from medicine and medical physics in Poland. She then enrolled in specialist training in radiation oncology and clinical-research fellowships which she undertook in Poland, Australia and Canada. She holds a PhD in medical sciences. In 2007 she joined The Christie as a clinical research fellow, leading to a MD qualification from the University of Manchester. She now holds a substantive consultant post at The Christie.
In 2023 she was appointed a Manchester Academic Health Science Centre (MAHSC) Honorary Clinical Chair at The University of Manchester. At The Christie at Oldham, she set up and successfully runs the Rapid Access Palliative Radiotherapy Clinic.
At a national level, Professor Rembielak has been a faculty for The Royal College of Radiologists (RCR) Skin Cancer Day and RCR Palliative Radiotherapy Day. She leads on RCR e-learning in skin cancer and on RCR consent project in radiotherapy (skin cancer and benign skin conditions). She represents RCR and The Christie at the British Association of Dermatologist (NHS Clinical Reference Group for Skin Cancer Meeting and co-author of skin SCC guidelines) and at the National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE). She collaborates very closely with Macmillan Cancer Support in the area of skin cancer and palliative and supportive management in cancer patients.
At an international level, Professor Rembielak is a very active and respected member of the European Society for Radiotherapy and Oncology (ESTRO). She is a course director at the ESTRO live course entitled “Multidisciplinary management of non-melanoma skin cancer”.
Professor Rembielak has been appointed to the Scientific Committee for the World Congress of Brachytherapy in 2024 and ESTRO Conferences in 2020-2024. She co-authored ESTRO guidelines on skin brachytherapy, chairs SIOG (International Society of Geriatric Oncology) Taskforce on adult patients with non-melanoma skin cancer and is an active member of the European Organisation for Research and Treatment (EORTC) Quality of Life Group (QLG). Professor Rembielak is an assistant editor at the Clinical Oncology journal and co-editor at Journal of Contemporary Brachytherapy. She acts as a reviewer for many national and international scientific journals.
She has been recognized internationally and has been an invited speaker at many national and international conferences and workshops.
The MAHSC Honorary Clinical Chairs are awarded on an annual basis by The University of Manchester’s Faculty of Biology, Medicine and Health Promotions Committee. They are awarded to individuals from across Greater Manchester who have made a major contribution to their clinical specialty, including excellence in research and education. There are now 86 MAHSC Honorary Clinical Chairs.
