Lipid Management and Population Health

Accelerated Access Collaborative Resources

Welcome. This web page is for healthcare professionals interested in accessing further information and resources from the Accelerated Access Collaborative’s programme of work on Lipid Management and Population Health.

On this page you will find recordings and slides from Town Hall events alongside accompanying resources such as Frequently Asked Questions, as they become available.

If you have any queries on the resources on this page, or have any questions on the work undertaken by the Accelerated Access Collaborative on lipid management, please contact: england.lipidsphm@nhs.net.

Disclaimer: These resources are part of a collaborative working agreement for lipid management between Novartis and NHS England and Improvement. Both Novartis and NHS England and Improvement contribute resources in the form of skills, expertise, project management and administrative activity. Funding for the collaborative working programme is provided by Novartis. NHS England and Improvement retained editorial control of the agenda and content for meetings, events, and publications.

The webinar held on 8 March 2022 was delivered as a collaboration between the Health Innovation Network and Accelerated Access Collaborative covering the whole lipid management pathway, and was independent to the other events on this page, delivered outside of the aforementioned collaboration.

Town Hall 2: Introducing Innovation to the Lipid Management Pathway using a Population Health Management Approach

The second briefing, held on 23 September, discussed the implementation of the LDL-C lowering therapy inclisiran into the lipid management pathway in England via a Population Health Management approach.

Implementing effective lipid management for patients is one of the national priorities for the NHS in England in the prevention and management of Cardiovascular Disease (CVD). Introducing innovation to the lipid pathway is one of the core components to enable this. NICE published a Final Appraisal Document (FAD) for inclisiran on Wednesday 1st September, recommending it as an option for use in the secondary prevention of CVD. Its approval for use in the NHS comes as part of a collaboration agreement between Government, NHS England and NHS Improvement, and Novartis to deploy this new therapy into the NHS in England via a Population Health Management approach.

Speakers include:

  • Matt Whitty, Director of Innovation Research and Life Sciences at NHS England and NHS Improvement, and CEO of the Accelerated Access Collaborative
  • Dr Shahed Ahmad, National Clinical Director for Cardiovascular Disease Prevention at NHS England and NHS Improvement
  • Dr Kiren Collison, Deputy Medical Director for Primary Care, NHS England and NHS Improvement.
  • Dr Jaimini Cegla, Consultant in Metabolic Medicine, Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust
