Health Innovation Manchester represents Greater Manchester’s wider health research, innovation and life sciences system. We are one of only six academic health science centres (AHSCs) in England, designated to research new treatments and improve health education and patient care.
The AHSCs are NHS and university partnerships which draw on their world-class research and health education to improve patient care and healthcare delivery. AHSCs aim to bring scientific discoveries from the lab to the ward, operating theatre and general practice, so patients benefit from innovative new treatments.
Designation as an Academic Health Science Centre is a mark of recognition that Manchester is a leading international centre of excellence in education, research, healthcare, industry collaboration and – crucially – the translation of cutting edge developments in science into the care that our patients receive.
We have a thriving programme of research activities across the our domains of research excellence – cancer, cardiovascular disease, inflammation and repair, women and children, mental health and neuroscience.
We are working with local research partners to focus activity on addressing the health and social care priorities as well as securing further funding and advancing translational research delivery into the front line.
