New Atrial Fibrillation (AF) digital toolkit launched to support AF stroke prevention
A new Atrial Fibrillation (AF) digital toolkit has been launched to support those working in AF stroke prevention across the NHS.
Each year, about 15,000 people in England, Wales and Northern Ireland are admitted to hospital for an AF related stroke. Since 2016, the AHSN Network have delivered a nationwide programme focused on identifying and addressing the barriers to stroke prevention in AF across the patient pathway. Health Innovation Manchester has worked to deliver this programme in Greater Manchester and East Cheshire.
This toolkit has been produced as part of the programme and brings together methodologies and resources that can be used to help detect people with AF, improve rates of anticoagulation therapy (used to treat those with AF at risk of stroke), and perfect treatment.
This toolkit is a refresh of the former pan-London AF toolkit. It includes:
- examples of successful initiatives from across the AHSN Network for others to learn from, adapt and implement in their own areas
- an interactive AF data tool to support Clinical Commissioning Groups (CCGs) to develop their local AF service
- an interactive dashboard to help commissioners make more informed decisions on local care for patients with AF
- the latest clinical guidance related to AF stroke prevention
