Masterclass – Supporting International Students – Challenges and Opportunities
Simon Building 4.38, Brunswick Street, Manchester M13 9PS
Delivered by: Karen Badat, Tiffany Leung, Jake Butler, Clare Huish and Isla Gemmell.
This session is co-created and delivered by current students and staff members. After this session, participants will have an enhanced understanding of culture and the difficulties that international and home students may face before and upon their arrival at the University of Manchester. The session includes both theory and scenarios. Participants are invited to engage in discussions facilitated in a non-judgmental and interactive manner to reflect on their own experiences and concerns. The session has been designed under the action-focused framework to ensure participants are able to take a constructive action back to their work.
By the end of the session participants will be expected to be able to:
- Define the concept of culture and demonstrate an awareness of their personal, professional and students’ culture.
- Identify challenges and limitations of the existing support system, strategies and resources in response to the discussed challenges and limitations.
- Reflect on their own practice and generate a constructive action to take away.
