Professor Cynthia Eccles
Professor Cynthia Eccles is a Consultant Research Radiographer (therapeutic and diagnostic) at The Christie NHS Foundation Trust. She leads a team of 10+ academic and research radiographers in advanced radiotherapy research. Her research interests include MR-guided RT, adaptive RT, radiotherapy motion management and validation of imaging biomarkers of RT response. She is also the Co-hub lead of the Manchester CRUK RadNet AHP Doctoral Academy with projects in motion management for abdominal SABR, adaptive and biologically adaptive RT for cervical cancers.
Consultant radiographer, Prof. Cynthia Eccles, has been appointed AHP research champion for the Greater Manchester network, the first time a radiographer has undertaken this voluntary role anywhere in the UK.
Cynthia is a Canadian trained research radiographer (MRTT/MR), dual qualified in radiotherapy and diagnostic MRI, a DPhil (radiobiology) graduate of Oxford University. She is a consultant research radiographer with a focus on MRI guided and image guided proton beam RT at the Christie. Cynthia worked at the Princess Margaret Hospital in Toronto.
Based at one of 15 local clinical research networks around the country, research champions are a National Institute for Health Research (NIHR) and Council for Allied Health Professions Research (CAHPR) sponsored role. They work with AHPs locally and with their fellow AHP research champions nationally. They are role models and connectors for AHP health and social care professionals across their local network.
The MAHSC Honorary Clinical Chairs are awarded on an annual basis by The University of Manchester’s Faculty of Biology, Medicine and Health Promotions Committee. They are awarded to individuals from across Greater Manchester who have made a major contribution to their clinical specialty, including excellence in research and education. There are now 86 MAHSC Honorary Clinical Chairs.
We look forward to your participation and engaging discussions.
